Swimming
The activity was to go to lap swimming at the Hyslop between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. During my freshman year, I remember going to the Hyslop during open swim at nights as a way to stay in shape and for something to do. I thought this would be a good opportunity to get back into swimming. I had a break between 11 and noon so I thought this would be a great time to go. I started out strong, but soon remembered how hard/tiring swimming is. I swam for about 20 minutes and I was dead. The best part about being done after swimming was going into the sauna. It felt amazing after the swim. I think I will start to swim during open swim/lap swimming more now that I know it is available during the lunch hour and at night.
Culture Night – Philippines
Activity: Attend Culture Night
Thursday, February 2nd, 6:30 p.m.
The activity was to go to the Culture Night in the Memorial Union at the Loading Dock. I have been to several of these events over my years here at UND. The Philippines were the country/culture that was being represented tonight. The presenter was very upbeat and kept the presentation exciting. The most interesting/intriguing of the presentation was the dancing that was done by a couple of people. It was very unique and I found myself tapping my foot to the music. Every time I goes to culture nights I learn a lot about a different culture, but the best thing about the night is the food. The culture night at the Union allow you to get a plate of food for a $1 of the cuisine from the country/culture of the night. The food tonight was excellent and I look forward to coming back every Thursday that I can to learn about a different culture/country and to get a good meal.
Winged Shadows Life Among Birds Exhibit
Dimension: Environmental
Activity: Visit the ND Museum of Art to visit the Winged Shadows Life Among Birds Exhibit.
Friday, January 27th
The activity was to visit the ND Museum of Art to visit the Winged Shadows Life Among Birds exhibit between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. I picked this event because I have never been to the ND Museum of Art and since I’m graduating this semester I figured this would be a good chance to visit the museum to say that I have been to it while I was at UND. I really had no idea what to expect, but it was interesting to see how many photographs, paintings, and other exhibits there were. I was very intrigued by several paintings that depicted birds and fisherman trying to catch fish. I am from North Dakota and I enjoy going on the lake during the summer and winter trying to catch fish. I believe the paintings were trying to depict that birds are better at catch fish than the fisherman. It was a great experience to see the paintings and made it able for me to check on something on my bucket list at UND.
Before I Die Project
Dimension: Spiritual
Activity: Contribute to the “Before I Die” Project
Friday, January 20th All Day
The activity was to go to the Student Involvement Office in the Memorial Union and contribute to the “Before I Die” Project. I didn’t know what this project was when I first went to the Union. When I walked into the Involvement I saw a huge chalkboard with numerous items that would be on a bucket list or something that people want to do before they die. It was really interesting to see some of the items on the big chalkboard. I knew that some of the items were people just trying to be funny, but a majority of them were pretty serious and items that I wanted to complete as well in my lifetime. I read the entire board and it was great to see people’s goals and to contribute to the project. I hoped to learn how to surf and go to Australia one day. It was also great to see almost the entire board full of people’s ideas.
Team Wellness Recruitment
Dimension: Occupational
Activity: Attend Team Wellness Recruitment at Wellness Center
Wednesday, January 18th at 5:00 p.m.
The activity was to attend a Team Health and Wellness Recruitment session at the Wellness Center. I found out that in order to become an employee of the Health and Wellness that you needed to come to this recruitment session. I also found out that there were numerous positions open at the wellness center as well as different areas around the university. It was interesting to find out about the process that must be completed before getting hired by the wellness. It was very professional process and after this recruitment session I believe that I am going to apply for a couple positions. I hope that I can make it through entire process and get a job for this semester. I knew that I wanted to work with the Health and Wellness because they work with a lot of students and understand that student’s schedule. It is great to know they understand that students need to balance work and school.
Health Screening
Dimension: Emotional
Activity: Complete online health screening
Thursday, January 19th
The activity was to complete an online health screening on the UCC Website and then bring your completed survey to the Health and Wellness Resource Office in the Memorial Union. I ended up doing the alcohol health screening and found that it was very simple questions to answer. I was also expecting this screening to take 20 minutes, but I think this screening took less than 10 minutes. After completing the screening I printed out the results and brought them to the H&W office in the Union. After getting back from the H&W office I was interested in finding out when the screening said that you should get help. I took the screening many times increasing my drinks per week and quantity and it was interesting to find out the results. After completing the alcohol screening I went back and did a couple more screenings just to see what the UCC website had to offer. It was good to know that there are sites out there to help people if needed.
