The Spirit in me
I thought I would start off with a little bit about me. My name is Becky and I am from southern Wisconsin. I spent five years at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee earning two degrees (after changing my major six times…); one in Exceptional Education: American Sign Language and the other in Women Studies.
I knew I believed in God before I came to Milwaukee, but it is definitely a belief I came to all on my own. Religion wasnt a topic that as talked about regularly, in fact it wasn’t a topic that was talked about at all as I experienced my childhood. Because of which, I held on to my belief, realizing that those around me did not have the kind of connection with spirituality that I do. In fact, I could see that if my strong core in spirituality was revealed, I would have a great deal of defending to do.
College gave me a space to continue to seek and explore. And this is what I took the time to do. It was true then and it is still true today that there are questions and topics which I still do not have answers to or fully know where I stand. The challenge is making yourself willing to discuss them (or at least think about them) anyway. And that is why I’m writing- I’m willing to talk.
If you have questions, if you have comments, if you want to strike up a debate, feel free. But know this, I’m no expert. I’m just your regular ol’ gal who is working in a job I happen to love because I allowed God lead me here.
Speaking about spirituality can be touchy- my next post will talk about just this. Stay tuned
We are excited about your topic and excited to see more!
